Coffee date

If we were having coffee this morning I’d mention how much I wish I could sit in the back of the library, in one of those nice new arm chairs in the sun, and have my student workers buzz me if they need me.

If we were having coffee, I’d then admit that I’m much more likely to actually get homework done if I stay at my desk in my empty office.

If we were having coffee this morning I’d admit that I have a wee slight problem with books. I currently have seven on my desk at work, one at home, and one on the way from another university. Good thing I’m almost done with this semester!

If we were having coffee this morning I’d tell you that the thought of buying gas to drive my darling car and a UHAUL from Athens to Colorado is somehow more persuasive than the thought of apartment deposits in convincing me to forego that trip to Old Navy and just add the items to my birthday list.

If we were having coffee this morning I would tell you I’m terrified of moving halfway across the country by myself. But maybe it will be the lesson I need to finally find a way to move past my shyness and learn to make friends through my own efforts instead of theirs. Yes, that’s a better way to look at it.

A coffee date

This is something that Jenna of Eat, Live, Run started awhile back that I just love. Maybe I’ll try to do this weekly. Monthly. Whenever it occurs to me.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that I’m listening to Christmas music in the hopes that it will inspire me to get in the holiday mood. No luck so far.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that I’m so excited to get my grad school applications submitted. I’m nearly done with this semester and then there’s nothing stopping me from finishing them.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that a huge part of that excitement is figuring out where I’m going to finally get away from this town. I’m finally to the point of feeling there’s nothing for me here.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that I’ve been working with a personal trainer twice a month at the gym and I’m the happiest with my body that I’ve ever been. I’m excited to see what it can become.

If we were having coffee together, I’d admit that when I’m unhappy I tend to lose interest in food. Kind of works against that other thing I just told you.

If we were having coffee together, I’d tell you that I hate weekends. Or really, I need more friends in this town so that I can have people to get out and spend time with, away from my apartment.

If we were having coffee together, I’d reassure you that the above statement will hopefully change in a month or so. The pressure to stay quiet until about 2 pm when I generally wake up at 7 has slowly eaten away at my sanity.

If we were having coffee together, I’d apologize for not having anything more cheerful to say, but point out that I’m optimistic about the near future.
